Crisis in Square Villa ...As P-Square sacks May D
It appears that music fans are not yet through with news of high profile
splits in the music industry this year as P Square’s Square Records
during the week severed ties with their protégé, Akinmayokun Awodumila,
also known as May D.
Not a few are yet to forget the whirlwind separation between ex-partners of Mo’Hits Records, D’Banj and Don Jazzy. The messy split was in the news for several months and degenerated to an exchange of brickbats from both camps.
P Square’s position on the surprise sack was revealed in a release made available to EE on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 and signed on behalf of Square Records and Northside Entertainment Limited by Jude Okoye, elder brother to the twins.
The terse statement reads, “I, JUDE ‘ENGEES’ OKOYE of Square Records Limited and Northside Entertainment Limited hereby announces to the general public that Mr. Akinmayokun Awodumila, otherwise known as MAY D is no longer an artiste under the aforementioned outfits due to irreconcilable differences. We at Northside and Square records wish him all the best in his career and life.”
Meanwhile, May D is officially yet to react to the development as at press time but feelers from the camp of the talented singer and songwriter revealed that the report was not officially communicated to him before it was made public. There are strong indications that another spell of mudslinging may be in the offing as the camp of the embattled young artiste is already crying foul.
While it lasted, the relationship between P Square and the Nile Ijo crooner produced one of the most successful collaborations in the twins’ career entitled Chop My Money. The song also caught the attention of Konvict Music boss, Akon who featured in the remix version. Similarly, on the stable of Square Records, May D has released a few hit songs including Sound Track and Nile Ijo.
